Giants RH Wellemeyer leaves game with injury

Published Jun. 10, 2010 7:03 p.m. ET

San Francisco right-hander Todd Wellemeyer left Thursday's game against the Cincinnati Reds with a strained right thigh after hitting into a double play with the bases loaded in the top of the third inning.

Wellemeyer ran hard to try to beat the throw to first on his grounder, then pulled up and bent over after crossing the base. He walked slowly to the bench, talked to a trainer and left the game.

The Giants led 4-0 at the time and Wellemeyer had allowed only one hit. The setback left Wellemeyer's streak of road futility intact. He has yet to win on the road since May 27, 2009 with St. Louis. He's 0-4 in five road starts this year.

Denny Bautista relieved and gave up four runs in the bottom of the third.
