Giants, reliever Kontos reportedly agree to one-year deal
The San Francisco Giants and right-hander George Kontos reportedly have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal.
According to multiple outlets, the Giants agreed to a one-year contract with the reliever on Monday, which reportedly is worth $1.15 million, per MLB.com.
The deal has yet to be officially announced by the club.
In recent arbitration filings, Kontos submitted at $1.35 million and the Giants filed at $850,000. He made $517,500 with the Giants last season.
The 30-year-old right-hander is coming off his best major-league season, in which he notched a 4-4 record with a 2.33 ERA and 0.94 WHIP. His career record stands at 12-7 with a 2.99 ERA and 1.12 WHIP.
Kontos achieved a career-high 1.6 wins above replacement in 2015, via Baseball-Reference's model for WAR.
Now that the Giants reportedly have signed Kontos, the only remaining arbitration-eligible player on their roster is Brandon Belt.
Reports indicate that the two parties were far off in their arbitration filings, as Belt reportedly filed at $7.5 million and the Giants filed at $5.3 million.
The first baseman made $3.6 million last season.
