Tiger makes it 8 years without jacket

The streak continues.

Tiger Woods, despite closing Sunday with four birdies over his final 10 holes, could only muster a 2-under 70 and finished T-4 to run his Masters winless streak to eight tournaments.

"It's just the way it goes," said Woods, who last won at Augusta in 2005, picking up his fourth green jacket after beating Chris DiMarco in a playoff. "As I said, I had my opportunities to finish with some good numbers this week and I felt like I really played well and I've been playing — I played this week the way I've been playing all year, and that's a good sign."

Woods didn't give himself a great chance to contend by going 2-over through eight holes Sunday, including scrambling pars at both par-5s (Nos. 2 and 8). He turned things around with birdies at Nos. 9 and 10, but missed a 15-footer on No. 12 that proved costly. He would pick up birdies on Nos. 13 and 15, but then miss a 10-footer on No. 16 that sealed his fate.

"I certainly missed my share of putts today, actually this week. I also made a bunch, too," Woods said. "So it's one of those things where this golf course was playing a little bit tricky. We had four different green speeds out there, and I couldn't believe how slow they were the first two days, yesterday I couldn't believe how fast they were and then today it was another different speed again."

Woods held up well considering the Saturday controversy surrounding a delayed two-shot penalty that did not result in a disqualification due to Rule 33-7 in the Rules of Golf. He says that fans did not treat him any differently during the weekend.

"They were fantastic. I had so much encouragement out there. They were absolutely incredible," Woods said. "Especially yesterday starting out the day, I was, I couldn't believe the amount of support I had and everyone was just trying to get me to shoot a low one and I was very thankful for that."

Woods, who has not won any major since the 2008 US Open, has not officially announced which tournament he will play next, although it is expected to be the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow in early May.
