CHALMAZEL-JEANSAGNIERE, France (AP) Jesus Herrada of Spain won the second stage of the Criterium du Dauphine Libere on Tuesday after making the most of a slightly uphill finish to time his attack to perfection.

Two-time Tour de France champion Alberto Contador kept the race leader's jersey.

After the peloton caught the breakaway riders, Herrada made his move in the last 200 meters of the 168-kilometer stage in central France, surging ahead to cross the finish line 2 seconds ahead of Frenchman Tony Gallopin.

Belgium's Serge Pauwels took third place.
