Rocco's NCAA appeal denied; will sit out season

Michael Rocco will have to sit out the season at Richmond after the NCAA denied his appeal for a transfer exception.

The former Virginia quarterback transferred after last season. The school appealed to the NCAA for a one-time exception to allow him to play this season, but the NCAA turned it down. NCAA bylaws require a player have two seasons of eligibility to qualify for the exception, and Rocco only has one.

Spiders coach Danny Rocco says he's disappointed with the ruling, but that his nephew can practice with the team throughout the season.
