NC Central slogs way to 17-13 win over Florida A&M
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Malcolm Bell hit LaVontis Smith on a 42-yard scoring strike early in the fourth quarter and Dorrel McClain broke for a 25-yard score with 4:54 remaining as North Carolina Central slogged its way to a 17-13 come-from-behind win over Florida A&M on Saturday.
Neither team could mount an offensive charge on the rain-soaked field in the first half as the Rattlers were ahead 5-3 at the break. Florida A&M had 46 total yards and the Eagles (4-2, 3-0 Mid-Eastern) totaled 14 yards at the break.
Bell finished with 87 passing and 61 rushing yards and McClain had 86 rushing yards for NCCU, which totaled 219 yards while limiting the Rattlers (1-5, 1-2) to 112 yards.
Trailing 10-5 midway in the fourth, Florida A&M's Devin Bowers slipped his way down the sideline from the 18 for a score and a 13-10 lead following the 2-point conversion. The Eagles answered four plays later on McClain's score.
