Harbaugh: Satellite camps are 'good for football'

Jim Harbaugh has been in the headlines for a variety of reasons since taking over as head coach at Michigan last winter, but one topic seems to have risen to the top recently: Satellite camps.

After receiving some heat for a plan to take the Michigan message on the road this summer, he answered those critics by inviting coaches who cannot hold their own off-site camps because of rules in their conference to take part in Michigan's as guest speakers.

It was not hard to decipher his motivation for the camps or his response -- the name "Exposure U" seems to say enough -- but the coach has not said a lot about his motivation. Until now.

"I just think it's good for football," Harbaugh said on the Jim Rome Show, via the Detroit Free Press. "The more coaches that are there, the more coaches that get exposure. I love that Ivy League coaches are coming to our camp. Big Ten coaches are coming to our camp. South Florida is coming."

Harbaugh estimates 70 coaches will take part in the camp June 14-17.

"It's good for the high school player," Harbaugh said. "You get to meet people. Somebody takes an interest in them and possibly that can lead to playing football in college. And if not, it helps them be a better high school football player."

So it sounds like a win-win... unless you're Nick Saban, apparently.
