Ross Gornall kicked a 26-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter and Florida Atlantic held on for a 17-16 victory over Western Kentucky on Saturday.

Bobby Rainey scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Hilltoppers ahead 16-14 in the third quarter. But Gornall's 26-yarder with 14:30 left in the fourth put the Owls (3-5, 2-4 Sun Belt Conference) ahead for good.

Alfred Morris led FAU with 84 yards rushing and a touchdown. Jeff Van Camp passed for 140 yards and a 62-yard touchdown pass to Lester Jean to give the Owls a 14-9 lead in the second quarter.

Rainey finished with 163 yards rushing on 33 carries, including an 11-yard rushing score in the opening quarter for the Hilltoppers (1-8, 1-4). Kawaun Jakes threw for only 70 yards as he completed just 8 of his 24 passes, also throwing an interception.
