Defensive coordinator Bill Young is expected to miss the first two games of the season for No. 19 Oklahoma State after undergoing an undisclosed medical procedure.

Coach Mike Gundy announced Thursday that Young will miss seven to 10 days, and linebackers coach Glenn Spencer will oversee the defense while Young is out.

Since returning to his alma mater three seasons ago, Young's defenses have produced more takeaways than any team in the nation. Oklahoma State has caused 108 turnovers in that span, 17 more than second-place Oregon.

The Cowboys play Savannah State in their opener Saturday in Stillwater, then hit the road to play at Arizona on Sept. 8.

Young is expected to return in time for OSU's home game against Louisiana-Lafayette on Sept. 15.
