Coach: Clemson's Stoudt to start at quarterback

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says Cole Stoudt will start at quarterback in place of the injured Deshaun Watson when the Tigers face Georgia State on Saturday.

Watson sprained a ligament and bruised a bone in his left knee during the first quarter of a 28-6 loss at No. 17 Georgia Tech last week. Stoudt played poorly after replacing Watson, throwing three interceptions - two which were returned for touchdowns.

Stoudt began the season as Clemson's starter before Watson took over in a September loss at Florida State. Stoudt also started three midseason games for the Tigers (7-3) when Watson broke a bone in his throwing hand against Louisville last month.

Swinney had thought Watson's latest injury was more serious. However, tests showed no major damage Watson could return this season.
