Marcus Kitts scored 20 points and William & Mary withstood a late comeback attempt to defeat Mercer 57-52 on Saturday night.

Kitts also had eight rebounds for the Tribe (2-3), who won their second game in two nights at the Legends Classic.

William & Mary held a 49-41 lead with 1:06 left, but the Bears (2-4) cut the margin to 50-46 on Jeff Smith's layup with 46 seconds left.

Mark Hall's 3-pointer cut William & Mary's advantage to 52-49 with 32 seconds to play, but the Tribe's Quinn McDowell hit five free throws to seal the victory.

McDowell finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. JohnMark Ludwick had 11 points and Matt Rum finished with 10 for William & Mary.

Smith, who was 6 for 9 from the 3-point line, led Mercer with 23 points and Brian Mills had 13.

Mercer shot 36.7 percent from the 3-point line (11 for 30) and made only eight field goals inside the arc.
