Devoe Joseph made five 3-pointers and scored 20 points to lead No. 25 Minnesota to a 98-49 exhibition victory over Minnesota State, Moorhead on Monday night. Lawrence Westbrook scored 16 points and Blake Hoffarber added 14 for the Gophers, who made 14 of 23 from long range. Jake Driscoll scored 14 points for Moorhead, which is a Division II program about a 4-hour bus ride west of the Twin Cities. The Dragons have eight players who grew up in Minnesota. They looked a little nervous against the school they grew up watching. The Dragons missed 15 of their first 16 shots and trailed 25-2 at the midpoint of the first half. The Gophers played their second exhibition game without suspended forwards Trevor Mbakwe and Royce White and guard Devron Bostick. Mbakwe has a court date in December on charges of felony aggravated battery in Miami and cannot play until those legal matters are resolved. Bostick and White were suspended indefinitely last week; White for his arrest at the Mall of America on charges of theft and fifth-degree assault and Bostick for an unspecified violation of team rules. Coach Tubby Smith said after the game that neither White nor Bostick will play in the regular season opener on Friday night against Tennessee Tech.
