La Salle slows it down in upset of No. 25 Dayton

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Jordan Price had 17 points and Amar Stukes added 13 as La Salle upset No. 25 Dayton 61-57 Saturday.

Price, who reached 1,000 points for his collegiate career, was the spark offensively, but the Explorers (5-8, 1-2 A-10) used two other facets of their game to knock off the Flyers: defense and an old-school offense.

Coach John Giannini had his team hold the ball on most possessions just inside half court and not run a play until 10 seconds were left on the shot clock. Most of the La Salle shots were taken just before the possession clock expired.

This slow down tactic seemed to frustrate Dayton, who couldn't get their up-tempo and crisp-passing offense in rhythm and allowed the Explorers, who lost their previous two games this season against ranked opponents by a combined 75 points, to stay in the game.

It was also a savvy move by Giannini as he only played six players the entire game, negating the strength of Dayton's deep and talented bench.
