Florida coach Billy Donovan suspended center Jon Horford and guard Zach Hodskins for conduct detrimental to the team.

Donovan announced the penalties Wednesday before the Gators opened Southeastern Conference play at South Carolina. Neither player made the trip for the game.

Donovan said the decision was one he made and had nothing to do with the university.

The 6-foot-10 Horford, the brother of former Florida great Al Horford, transferred from Michigan. He has started 12 of 13 games this season, averaging 8.3 points and 5.7 rebounds. Hodskins is a walk-on freshman who has totaled just seven minutes of action.

Donovan said the status of the two players would be re-evaluated when the team returned to Gainesville, Florida. The Gators play at home Saturday night against Mississippi State.
