Eastern Illinois beats Troy with late free throws 71-67

CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) Montell Goodwin, shooting his first free throws of the game, made both with 15 seconds left to snap a tie in Eastern Illinois' 71-67 victory over Troy on Monday.

After Kevin Baker missed a long 3-pointer for the Trojans (2-2), Cornell Johnston added two more free throws with two seconds left for EIU (3-2).

Jeremy Hollimon was fouled on a layup and his 3-point play tied the game for Troy with 1:08 remaining. Hollimon missed a pair of free throws with 39 seconds remaining. Johnston then missed a 3-pointer, Troy's Juan Davis Jr. grabbed the rebound but traveled. EIU called timeout and Goodwin was fouled on the inbounds pass.

Demetrius McReynolds scored 19 points to lead EIU. Goodwin added 16.

Baker scored 15 points and Jordon Varnado had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The two teams played Nov. 14 at Troy with the Trojans winning 70-67 on Varnado's jumper with 3.4 seconds left.
