Meyers Taylor, Jones win 2-woman bobsled World Cup for US

ST. MORITZ, Switzerland (AP) The United States won a two-woman bobsled World Cup on Saturday but lost a third qualifying entry in the Olympic lineup.

Elana Meyers Taylor, driving her first win this season, and Lolo Jones set an Olympia track record of 1 minute, 7.4 seconds in a combined two-run time 0.21 faster than Mariama Jamanka and Annika Drazek of Germany.

German European champion Stephanie Schneider and Lisa Buckwitz were third, 0.49 back.

Deeper in the field, American pilot Brittany Reinbolt had to beat Canada's third-ranked sled to secure her team's third spot in the Pyeongchang Olympic races next month.

Reinbolt and push athlete Aja Evans finished 15th, one place and 0.16 behind Canadian driver Christine de Bruin and Melissa Lotholz.

''It's bittersweet because I've been working all season to get a race win and I knew I could win here,'' Meyers Taylor said. ''I'm just gutted for Brittany and our brakemen.''

Later Saturday, the U.S. team was scheduled to announce the roster for the Pyeongchang Winter Games. The event is scheduled Feb. 20-21 in South Korea.

In the two-man at St. Moritz, Germany swept the podium in an event won by Nico Walther and Christian Poser.

World champion Francesco Friedrich and brakeman Thorsten Margis were 0.05 back, and third-place Johannes Lochner trailed by 0.21 with Christopher Weber.

Justin Kripps of Canada, and his brakeman Jesse Lumsden placed fourth and retained the World Cup standings lead over Friedrich, The final race is next weekend at Koenigssee, Germany.

Canada's top-ranked driver, Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries, kept her World Cup lead placing ninth Saturday with push athlete Phylicia George. Meyers Taylor is second.
