Would the Minnesota Vikings consider signing Bernard Pollard?

The Minnesota Vikings have at least one solid safety in Harrison Smith, but who's going to start beside him?

They released veteran Taylor Mays last month, and now they're left with Robert Blanton, Antone Exum, Andrew Sendejo and Anthony Harris. Without a candidate who's of clear-cut starting caliber, the Vikings could end up scouring what's left on the open market, Andrew Krammer of 1500ESPN.com writes.

"[I]f the coaching staff isn't comfortable with their options at safety next to Harrison Smith, a pair of vets with ties to defensive backs coach Jerry Gray remain available in safety George Wilson and safety Bernard Pollard, who both played for Gray with the 2013 Titans," Krammer wrote. "Pollard is coming off an Achilles injury that held him out of 11 games last season. Veterans Danieal Manning, formerly with Chicago and Houston, and Dawan Landry, from the Ravens, Jaguars and Jets, are also available."

Of all the journeymen Krammer named, Pollard might be the most endearing name. He has always been a difference-maker in the defensive backfield, with 12 interceptions, 11 forced fumbles and 10.5 sacks since entering the league in 2006 as a second-round pick. Pollard may be on top of the hill at 30 years old, but he's certainly not over it.

Wilson isn't a bad option either, after starting 10 games last year and playing in all 16. The connection both Pollard and Wilson share with Gray is at least interesting and warrants a watchful eye in the weeks to come.
