Tom Brady: 2007 Patriots are 'greatest team' in NFL history
The 2007 New England Patriots will go down as one of the most memorable teams in NFL history for more reasons than one, consistently blowing teams out during the regular season. And while the one loss -- a stunning, dramatic Super Bowl defeat to the New York Giants that went down to the wire (partially thanks to David Tyree's helmet) -- will probably be remembered more than the 18 wins, Tom Brady won't let that single blemish take away from what they were able to accomplish.
In fact, he'd still go as far as to say they're the best team to ever take the field in the NFL.
“We had such a great team. To me, the greatest team that ever played in the NFL,” Brady said via Gary Myers of the New York Daily News. “We won so many games against the toughest competition that year by big margins. Wes Welker and Randy Moss in the prime of their careers at the same time along with Jabar Gaffney. We had a good running game, a great offensive line. Rodney Harrison, Tedy Bruschi, Asante Samuel -- we had incredible talent and our offense was so prolific.
"It was an incredible year. Then to lose -- we lost to a really good football team who played really well that particular day and it took some pretty great plays to beat us.”
That team he's referring to, of course, is the team they'll take on this Sunday. This week's matchup with the New York Giants will certainly bring back memories for Brady -- and bad ones, at that -- but it won't cause him to overlook the current Giants team.
Sitting at 8-0, the Patriots find themselves in the midst of another potential undefeated season with the Giants standing in their way once again. This Giants team doesn't have the prolific pass rush that gave Brady fits in 2007, but it still won't be a cakewalk by any means.
Having dropped to the Giants three consecutive times, Brady and the Patriots will look to end the skid and remain unbeaten on Sunday.
