Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown connects with wide receiver Corey Coleman for a touchdown to go up early on the Baltimore Ravens.

The Cleveland Browns had to make a change at the starting quarterback position once Robert Griffin, III had to go on injured reserve with a broken bone in his shoulder. Fortunately for the Browns, Cleveland might have the best backup quarterback in football in veteran Josh McCown.

McCown has been a journeyman throughout his NFL career, but had great success in 2013 running Marc Trestman’s aerial attack with the Chicago Bears. He was the starting quarterback for the 2014 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but that didn’t go over as well for McCown.

After struggling against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, the Browns needed an early spark in their Week 2 matchup with AFC North division rival Baltimore Ravens. McCown delivered a fantastic aerial strike to rookie wide receiver to put the Browns up early.

On a third and nine from the Baltimore 31-yard line, McCown chucks a great pass to the back of the end zone where only Coleman could come down with the reception. McCown had a Ravens pass rusher on top of him instantly after throwing the touchdown pass. It was a thing of beauty.

This score put the Browns up 7-0 after the successful point after attempt on rival Baltimore. People have piled on the Browns for their terrible Week 1 game against the Eagles. However, McCown is the better quarterback over Griffin. He too can stretch the field with his arm.

If McCown can stay healthy and grow in head coach Hue Jackson’s offense, Cleveland might be able to put up points in 2016. The offense will have an Air Raid look to it to help the young receivers. McCown under center gives Cleveland the best chance to win in 2016.
