Jaguars claim Rivers off waivers, Brewster to IR

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been awarded rookie defensive end Gerald Rivers off waivers from St. Louis.

The Jaguars made room for Rivers on the 53-man roster by placing guard Mike Brewster on injured reserve. Brewster, filling in for injured starter Will Rackley (concussion), broke his left ankle in Sunday's loss to Buffalo.

The 6-foot-5, 258-pound Rivers earned a spot on the Rams' opening day roster. He played in two games, seeing action on defense and special teams, and was waived Saturday.

A native of Ellenwood, Ga., Rivers played collegiately at Mississippi, where he saw action in 27 games with 10 starts. He did not play as a senior, but started five games as a junior and totaled 13 tackles.
