Dashon Goldson re-signed by the Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons made a big roster move on Tuesday, re-signing safety Dashon Goldson to the active roster.

Dashon Goldson returns to the Atlanta Falcons after Kemal Ishmael was placed on injured reserve. Goldson spent the six weeks on the Atlanta roster this season, but was released a few days following the loss to Seattle. The 32-year old safety is credited with 1 assist in very limited action though the Falcons’ first six games.

Waiting for Goldson to be cut became a weekly thing for many Falcons fans.

We’re now hoping Dashon Goldson has a second wind in his second stint with Atlanta. The Falcons defense currently ranks 30th against the pass and needs all the quality depth they can get. Injuries to Desmond Trufant and Adrian Clayborn have certainly set the unit back some. It also doesn’t help that Jalen Collins missed action last week due to a knee injury.

It wasn’t long ago when Goldson as an All-Pro with the San Francisco 49ers. He made the Pro Bowl in 2011 and 2012, during which time he accumulated 136 tackles and 9 interceptions over two seasons. Goldson signed a $41.25 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March of 2013. It didn’t take long before he fell out of favor with Jason Licht and Lovie Smith, and was traded to Washington in April of 2015.

Goldson was actually productive in his one season with the Redskins, being named defensive captain before the start of the season. He posted 69 solo tackles, an interception, and defended 3 passes before being released in the offseason.

Goldson was originally signed by the Falcons back in August, when Ishmael and Keanu Neal were banged up. He was only active in four games and then cut to make room for defensive lineman Cliff Matthews.
