Report: Bears scouts spotted at Cal game -- were they watching a QB?

The Chicago Bears are turning the focus toward the future, as this year's team seems to be hopeless. They are 0-3 and will likely be in the running for the first-overall pick in next year's draft.

The Bears may already be thinking about who they'll take with that pick. Four of the team's scouts were spotted by Scott Eklund of Scout.com at the California-Washington game over the weekend. Perhaps they were there to evaluate Cal quarterback Jared Goff.

Goff might be the best quarterback in the 2016 draft class. He's an accurate and mechanically-sound passer who harkens back to another top-rated Golden Bears passer, Aaron Rodgers. He has a similar skill set and could, one day, experience a similar level of success in the NFL.

Against Washington, Chicago's scouts saw Goff throw 40 times. He completed 24 attempts (60 percent) for 342 yards and two touchdowns. He also had an interception in Cal's 30-24 win over a respectable Pac-12 opponent.

A lot can happen between now and the draft, but Goff could be the prospect Chicago ends up targeting in the first round.
