Browns release linebacker Scott Solomon, injured last season
CLEVELAND (AP) The Browns released linebacker Scott Solomon, whose 2015 season was stopped short by injuries.
Cleveland had high hopes for Solomon as an outside pass rusher, but he hurt an ankle in the first quarter of the season opener against the New York Jets and was inactive for the next three games. On Oct. 11, he injured a knee on the first play against Baltimore, returned to play but was placed on injured reserve three days later.
Solomon became expendable after the Browns selected two linebackers during last weekend's NFL draft. Solomon has also played for Tampa Bay, the Jets and Tennessee.
The Browns also waived wide receiver Saalim Hakim, who was signed last week after impressing coaches during a tryout in mini-camp.
Cleveland added four wide receivers during the draft, selecting Baylor's Corey Coleman with the No. 15 overall pick.
