Bills players have 'unspoken rule' that it's 'playoffs or bust' in 2016

The Buffalo Bills own the longest active playoff drought among the four major American sports. They haven’t reached the postseason since 1999 and have had just two winning seasons since then. The city of Buffalo has been restless for quite a while, but more so of late than ever before.

The Bills are trying to reward their fans with a playoff berth this season, and they realize the pressure that rides on the next 16 games.

Rex Ryan, who’s always outspoken with his guarantees and declarations, won’t say it’s playoffs or bust in 2016. Yet, his tenure in Buffalo might be riding on it.

The Bills took a step back in his first season with the team last season, falling from 9-7 to 8-8 while also ranking 31st in sacks – down from first in 2014. He’s undoubtedly feeling the pressure, even if he doesn’t admit it. His players know there are high expectations this season and are hoping to not just give Bills fans a playoff appearance, but their coach, too.

The Bills have had a rough offseason filled with suspensions and injuries, all after Ryan said Buffalo had won the offseason. In order to win the division or at least earn a wild card berth, the Bills will have to overcome several key losses. It’s not impossible, but it will be difficult.

The Bills kick off their season on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens on the road where they're three-point underdogs.
