The 30-year-old was holding Jonathan Rea for the lead and the win on the final lap when he crashed with three turns left to go. Rea had no time to react and ran over him.

Davies was taken to a local hospital and underwent an MRI. He was diagnosed with thorax trauma, a fractured vertebrae and a contusion of the left thumb.

Tom Sykes made it past all the carnage and took the race win.
