Seattle Mariners: Jean Segura Flying Under the Radar
Seattle Mariners infielder Jean Segura is off to another hot start in 2017. However, hid solid production is nothing out of the ordinary, as the 27-year-old has always put up solid numbers.
While the Seattle Mariners sit in the bottom of the American League West with a disappointing record of 20-27, don't blame infielder Jean Segura for the team's troubles.
One of general manger Jerry Dipoto's offseason additions, Segura has flown under the radar not only in 2017, but for the majority of his career.
Segura came into 2017 on the heels of a red hot 2016 campaign where he led the National League in hits (203) as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

If leading the NL in hits wasn't enough, Segura wound up 13th in Most Valuable Player voting, too.
In 2017, he's picked up right where he's left off, as the 27-year-old is hitting a scorching .331 with 50 hits including eight doubles.
With such solid numbers, it makes one wonder as to why Segura has never been able to stay with one team.
Maybe it lies in the power department where Segura surely has lacked production, as evident by his 44 home runs in the past five seasons total.

He's never been a guy to count on for run production, either. From 2013 to 2016 Segura averaged just 48 RBI's per season.
Take a look at a premier contact hitter like Jose Altuve and you'll see that he also doesn't stuff the stats sheet with power numbers, either.
However, there's reason to believe Segura is coming around in terms of power, as he hit a career high 20 home runs last season and already has four this year.
It makes sense that we haven't heard of Segura much in the headlines, as the Mariners are a small market team with a bad record; the two things that usually add up to little publicity.
Could this potentially hurt Segura when it comes to All-Star voting? With names like Altuve, Daniel Murphy, Corey Seager, and Francisco Lindor filling up the ballots for the middle infield, it's hard to imagine Segura finds himself in the mix.
Even if he doesn't get selected to take part in the activities in Miami, Segura is certainly among the best the game has to offer in terms of elite contact hitters.
If the Mariners falter or Segura doesn't make headlines, it won't be due to his performance. He's done enough to prove his worth, even if there aren't a lot listening.
