Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield issues an extensive apology following his arrest

Oklahoma Sooners QB Baker Mayfield has issued a wide-ranging apology for his actions that resulted in his arrest this past Saturday.

Baker was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, fleeing and resisting arrest during an incident in Fayetteville, Ark. On Tuesday, he asked for forgiveness for “the biggest mistake of my life” and described the “shame, guilt, and embarrassment” he feels:

Shortly before finishing third in the Heisman Trophy voting in December, Mayfield announced he would return to Oklahoma for his senior season in 2017. In 13 games this past season, Mayfield threw for 3,965 yards and 40 TDs and led the Sooners to a Sugar Bowl win over Auburn.



On the morning of Mayfield’s arrest, university officials released a statement saying they were aware of the incident. However, there has been no word of any possible discipline.
