Sad news from the world of college football, where LSU's famous live mascot Mike the Tiger, has passed away.

The news brings an end to a sad, five-month ordeal for Mike VI, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer back in May. At the time, it was believed that with an aggressive treatment, Mike would be able to live another 1-2 years but that diagnosis changed over the last few days. The school announced last week that the cancer had spread and that Mike would be humanely euthanized, a decision that was made Tuesday.

Mike was born in 2005 and began serving as LSU's live mascot during the 2007 season. In his first year with the club, LSU took home the BCS National Championship.

LSU is now in the process of looking for the team's next mascot.
