Leonard Fournette still isn't ready to return for the LSU Tigers

LSU star running back Leonard Fournette will be sidelined again this week and is expected to sit out Saturday's game against Southern Miss, coach Ed Orgeron said Wednesday morning.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound junior has been hobbled by an ankle injury. Orgeron said he thought Fournette was going to be able to play two weeks ago, but he’s just letting the LSU training staff handle it. “We’re just taking it day-to-day."

Fournette has played in just three games this season and rushed for 386 yards, but Orgeron said he does expect him to return at some point this season. “It’s just taking a little longer than we thought, but we’re not going to rush it. We’re not gonna put him in until he’s 100 percent,” Orgeron said.

Orgeron stressed that the former Heisman candidate is a “tremendous team player and a tremendous leader."
