WWE WrestleMania 33: Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt Must Face Off at the Show

Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt have what it takes to be the main event of WrestleMania.

The odd pairing of Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt has been one of the more interesting storylines that have occupied Smackdown the last several months.  Now that former Wyatt member Luke Harper has been cast aside, it leaves Orton and Wyatt the duo to top going into WrestleMania season.  The former Tag Team Champions have been tearing up Smackdown, and now with Orton’s surprise win at the Royal Rumble, the plot thickens.

Perhaps no one saw Orton’s win coming, but it was definitely a monkey wrench thrown into the Orton and Wyatt equation.  There is absolutely no way Orton should and will face John Cena at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando.  It’s not that they can’t sell out Camping World Stadium; it will sell out regardless because of the stacked card that it will have.  It’s that the 16-time World Champion and the 12-time World Champion have met so many times before – it’s a feud that has been done before and if it were to go through, it does more harm than good.  Between that and Brock Lesnar v. Goldberg, the company will be revisiting the past.  That’s the last thing the company needs since putting focus towards the new era.

Even from the beginning, the feud between Orton and Wyatt was rather complex.  Wyatt is of a different breed – he’s the master manipulator of this era.  His cult following since NXT has been rather captivating and it’s a crime that he hasn’t tasted main event success.  He has been close thanks to feuding with The Undertaker in 2015.  He’s had some memorable feuds with Superstars such as John Cena, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns.  Perhaps now it is his turn to have the spotlight.

His win over Orton at No Mercy followed with the shocking turn of Orton joining the Wyatt Family definitely kept fans tuning in to see where this storyline was going.  It was one of the risks that Smackdown had taken that paid off immensely well.  Orton and Wyatt were able to capture the Smackdown Tag Team Championships at one point, which was another event fans were surprised to see.

The alliance between Orton and Wyatt shouldn’t be tossed to the side at all, especially with WrestleMania on the horizon.  Seeing the two men culminate their feud there would get the ending it deserves after the story that has been told the last several months.  If anything else the events that happened at the Rumble added to it.  However, a battle was almost teased at the Rumble when both men were in the final three next to Reigns.  Fans will never know what could have happened should Orton and Wyatt have been the final two men to battle it out for WrestleMania glory.  It was definitely a missed opportunity.

On the flip side, fans saw Harper turn against Wyatt in retaliation to last week’s events on Smackdown.  Harper’s actions also happened at the Rumble, and possibly it would have been too much focus on the Wyatt’s overall.  The tension between Orton and Harper reached its boiling point and now the family is separated.  One would think it could be Orton’s plan, after all, to get back at Wyatt.

The feud between Orton and Wyatt will definitely resurface and most likely will sooner rather than later.  With the Elimination Chamber, there is great chance that Cena will lose the Championship inside the structure.  And while WWE threw fans in for a loop with the events of the Royal Rumble, the world keeps turning and that leads to further speculation on what will actually be on the come up between now and WrestleMania.

With Orton’s guaranteed ticket to the WrestleMania main event and Wyatt’s participation in the Elimination Chamber match, fans could very well get another surprise twist in this complex rivalry/alliance between the two men.  Wyatt could be the surprise winner in less than two weeks leading to the impending showdown that fans want to see.  That is the most likely case to see the two battle it out once more.  And what better way to do that than on the grandest stage?
