Irish score 3 straight in 3rd, deal Badgers 3-2 loss

Despite carrying a two-goal lead into the third period, the Badgers couldn't stop red-hot Notre Dame.

The No. 4-ranked Fighting Irish scored three unanswered goals in the final frame, dealing Wisconsin a 3-2 loss in Madison and stretching their winning streak to 12 games.

Dylan Malmquist got Notre Dame on the board at 7:06 of the third, before Dawson Cook tied the game at 14:43. Malmquist struck again with less than four minutes remaining, as the Irish improved to 9-0 in Big Ten play.

Cameron Hughes scored on the power play to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. Tarek Baker made it 2-0 at 6:25 of the second.

Jack Berry got the start in goal, making 29 saves. Berry has spent much of the season backing up Kyle Hayton, transferred to Wisconsin from St. Lawrence in the offseason.

Hayton allowed five goals on just 14 shots in his most recent appearance, a 5-4 loss to Minnesota on Friday, Dec. 1.

The Badgers outshot the Irish 36-32 and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Their penalty kill was sharp, holding Notre Dame scoreless on six attempts.

The two teams face off again at 7 p.m. Saturday in Madison.
