Ohio State scores 5 in 3rd period, routs Wisconsin 6-2

Ohio State erased a one-goal Wisconsin lead in the third period, scoring five unanswered goals to deal the Badgers a 6-2 loss Friday night at Value City Arena.



Wisconsin led 1-0 thanks to freshman Linus Weissbach after outshooting the Buckeyes 15-6 in the first period. Badgers junior Matthew Freytag answered after Ohio State struck back early in the second period, scoring at 16:26 to put the Badgers up 2-1 heading into the third period.

From there, the scoresheet was all Buckeyes.

Ohio State scored two goals in less than a minute to open the third, then tacked on three more during the final 10 minutes of the game.

The Buckeyes had four power play opportunities in the third period, converting once.

Senior Kyle Hayton was in net for all six Wisconsin goals and finished with 28 saves. The Badgers outshot the Buckeyes 38-34 despite the lopsided result, and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
