No. 18 Arizona State matches best start with 88-41 win

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) Katie Hempen and Promise Amukamara scored 16 points apiece and No. 18 Arizona State beat Arizona 88-41 on Thursday night.

With the victory the Sun Devils (14-1, 3-0 Pac-12), matched the program's best start. Arizona State also was 14-1 to start the 1982-83 season.

Sophie Brunner and Kelsey Moos added 10 points each for Arizona State, which made 36 of 61 shots for 59 percent, including 7 of 15 from 3-point range. The Sun Devils outrebounded the Wildcats 45-32.

Arizona State took a 44-14 lead at halftime after holding Arizona (7-7, 0-3) to 6-of 32 shooting (18.8 percent). The Sun Devils had their largest lead of 48 points with three minutes left in the game.

The Sun Devils only had three fewer turnovers than the Wildcats but had a 25-8 advantage in points off turnovers. They also outscored Arizona 52-26 in the paint.
