The 28-year-old has struggled to make an impact since arriving at White Hart Lane from Spartak Moscow after Euro 2008, and is keen to leave Spurs to get regular first-team football. Zenit were among the clubs interested in the player, but it seems he will not be heading to St Petersburg. Speaking on Monday at the unveiling of new coach Luciano Spalletti, club president Alexander Dyukov said: "The management were considering the loan of Roman Pavlyuchenko for six months to the summer in order to decide whether to buy him. "Unfortunately, this proposal did not suit Tottenham. "We would not like to acquire the player now." Former Roma coach Spalletti, meanwhile, has penned a three-year contract with the 2007 Russian champions. Dyukov added: "Spalletti is a respected and experienced coach, a specialist with a fundamental vision for the club's development. That is what Zenit needs right now."
