Florida State freshman Deyna Castellanos made the most of her opportunity in a Venezuelan kit by scoring directly off the kickoff from the center circle in stoppage time just moments after Cameroon tied the game. Venezuela won 2–1.

Castellanos also scored Venezuela's first goal in the 23rd minute of the group stage match.
