Fleetwood defender Rob Atkinson has joined League Two counterparts Accrington on an initial one-month loan deal.

The 25-year-old is available for the visit of Aldershot on Saturday after a whirlwind move.

Atkinson was told of Stanley's interest by Cod Army boss Micky Mellon on Thursday but still began training with his Highbury Stadium team-mates on Friday morning before making the short trip to east Lancashire.

"I got wind of this on Thursday when the gaffer at Fleetwood mentioned that Accrington were interested and I had no hesitation in saying yes, I was delighted to come," he told Accrington's official website.

"Nothing got sorted so I went in to train with Fleetwood on Friday morning but then I got a call half way through warming up saying that I needed to get across to Accrington. I quickly signed some forms, got in the car and got over here to join the lads for training. It's been a pretty hectic day.

"It's a good opportunity to come and play some first-team football. That's what I want to do and Accrington are a good, established league side who are doing well this year and I'm thrilled to be part of it."
