Norwegians win 5 of 6 podium places in cross-country races

DRAMMEN, Norway (AP) Norwegians took five of the six podium places in the classic sprint on Wednesday at a cross-country World Cup event.

Petter Northug Jr. completed the 1.2-kilometer course in 2 minutes, 38.95 seconds, beating teammates Ola Vigen Hattestad by .41 seconds and Eirik Brandsdal by .47.

There was also a Norwegian 1-2 in the women's race, with Maiken Caspersen Falla winning in 2:57.96.

Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg finished second, .81 seconds behind, after trading the lead for much of the race with Stina Nilsson of Sweden. Natalia Matveeva of Russia took third, while Nilsson ended up in sixth.
