Bedlam on Ice: 25 predictions for Oklahoma-Oklahoma State
Oklahoma at Oklahoma State, and it's not exactly a chamber of commerce sort of evening in Payne County Oklahoma tonight.
Bad weather, cold temperatures, but no one will be thinking about that because it's the best, most important, biggest, most significant, add your favorite adjective here, Bedlam game since forever.
The Big 12 championship, a spot in the College Football Playoff, memories for days. This is your, "Remember When" game.
And it comes on ice. Forecast has everything from significant icing to bitter cold.
Drink it up. Oklahoma, No. 3 in the College Football Rankings takes on No. 10 OSU.
1. And you'll be thinking about what this game means a lot more than what the weather will be doing.
That's a sure thing. Here are 24 more guesses to what might happen tonight at 7.
2. By the time kickoff happens, you'll have already made up your mind about Notre Dame, which will have kicked off against Stanford. 3. You'll be scoreboard watching while Sooner watching, because let's face it, OU may be in the playoff with a win against OSU, but 3. You'll feel a lot better if Notre Dame gets beat. You always do, right?
More importantly than OU getting help from Stanford is OU getting help from its offensive line. Quarterback Baker Mayfield needs to stay upright, avoid the kind of hit that knocked him out of the game last week against TCU. 4.Mayfield makes it four quarters in this one. 5. Runs for a touchdown in the first quarter. 6. Passes for at least two by halftime. 7. And accounts for more than 300 total yards.
8. That will be enough to get him to New York for next month's Heisman ceremony. 9. And you'll check that Notre Dame-Stanford score one more time. OK, three more times.
OU survived last week without Mayfield, limping to the win with a dreadful second half. 10. You'll see plenty of sideline shots of Trevor Knight. 11. And think plenty about that second half and that interception which nearly doomed the Sooners. 12. Knight won't play in this game and neither will third-stringer Cody Thomas. It will be all about Mayfield. 13. And Samaje Perine. With or without Mayfield, Perine is good enough to carry the Sooners on his own. He was hurt last week, but is expected to start vs. the Cowboys. He's averaging 7.1 yards per carry over the past six games and 14. will have at least a pair of 20-plus yard runs in the first half. 15. And have 150 yards in the game. 16. But you'll still need to check that Notre Dame score one more time.
Count on ...
17. More than 10 catches from Sterling Shepard.
18. More than two turnovers for the Sooners.
19. At least one Belldozer comparison with OSU's J.W. Walsh and current NFL tight end Blake Bell.
20. Three lead changes
21. Five turnovers
22. An amazing touchdown catch from OSU's David Glidden
23. Two sacks from OSU's Emmanuel Ogbah.
You care about Notre Dame-Stanford, but you'll remember OU-OSU. This one's close. 24. There will be a touchdown in the last 4 minutes to decided Bedlam.
25. Sooners win, 30-24
Last week: 6-19
Overall: 147-129
