HAMBURG, Germany (AP) Hamburg residents will be asked to ratify the city's bid for the 2024 Olympic Games in a referendum on Nov. 24.

All political parties except the opposition Left Party voted in favor of the referendum, which would endorse Hamburg's bid to become Germany's candidate city. A vote against the games would end the bid.

Hamburg was chosen ahead of Berlin by the Germany's National Olympic Committee (DOSB) as its candidate city last March. A poll commissioned by the committee at the time had 64 percent of Hamburg's residents backing an Olympic bid. No recent polls have been published.

Hamburg, Boston, Rome, Paris and Budapest have announced bids for the 2024 Games. The deadline is Sept. 15.

The host city will be selected in 2017.
