We had the opportunity of interviewing Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate about his love for Call of Duty and what he expects from Infinite Warfare.

Professional athletes have spare time time to fill like normal, non-famous people. It might come as a surprise, but they’re into the same activities and hobbies as everyone else. For example, there’s NFL player Golden Tate, who is not only a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions but an avid fab of Call of Duty.

Tate shares what he likes most from the Call of Duty series, some NFL players he plays the game with, and what he’s looking forward to in the newest upcoming game, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

FS: What do you like most about Call of Duty?

Tate: I just really like being online. I really like the online multiplayer stuff. I’m a Team Deathmatch guy and I like Kill Confirmed. I like playing with my teammates and buddies back at home.

FS: Do you play with any of your teammates or any other NFL players for that matter?

Tate: Over the years, I used to play with Marshawn Lynch and Richard Sherman when I was in Seattle. Right now, I play with Andre Roberts, Eric Ebron, Darius Slay, and a bunch of other guys.

FS: How much do you get to play during the NFL season? We know you have to travel a lot, so how do you manage playing football and making some time to play Call of Duty?

Tate: Well, actually, during the week, we’re home. We don’t go on our away trips until Saturday evening so once it comes out, I get on and usually play around two to three hours everyday.

The cool thing about it is that it always comes out on a Tuesday and since Tuesdays are our off days, I always get to spend some quality time with the game. That’s always a cool thing.

FS: We’re not sure whether you were able to test out the multiplayer beta or if you’ve seen any gameplay videos on the game, but what are you most excited about for Infinite Warfare?

Tate: I have the beta, but I didn’t have too much time to play it. But, I will say that one of my favorite Call of Duty games was Modern Warfare, so I love that they’re remastering that game. I’m excited to get back and play some of those maps I used to really enjoy.

As for Infinite Warfare, I haven’t had too much time to watch the trailers. I like the surprise. I like to pop in the game and figuring it out from there.

FS: We figured that since everyone loves the original Modern Warfare and a lot of people seem to be more excited for the remaster than Infinite Warfare.

Do you like the new futuristic setting of recent Call of Duty games or do you prefer the old-school, traditional style of gameplay from others games like Modern Warfare and Black Ops?

Tate: I’m not a fan of the walking on walls and the futuristic stuff. However, I am a fan of Call of Duty, so I continue to support it. I like the basics. I liked it back when it was just normal gameplay. The futuristic stuff is okay sometimes. The guns are cool, but running up walls is just not my thing.

FS: Finally, what’s your favorite Call of Duty game? We know you mentioned that you loved playing Modern Warfare and it’s probably the game you played most back in the day, but is it your favorite Call of Duty game?

Tate: I think it’s Modern Warfare. I’d definitely say that’s my favorite one. I’m such a big fan of the series and I love them all, so it’s hard to pick a favorite, but I got hooked playing Modern Warfare.

I remember I used to play a ton of Halo and then I was introduced to Call of Duty. So, I just started playing Call of Duty and I haven’t touched Halo ever since.

FS: Most people actually started off with Halo since it came out first, but once Modern Warfare released, many people transitioned to Call of Duty.

Tate: Yeah, I haven’t really touched any other shooter games like Gears of War, Destiny, or Rainbow Six. I don’t really mess with those.
