Pacers to wear Hickory jerseys to commemorate 'Hoosiers'

NBA teams aren't shy when it comes to redesigning their jerseys or adding other alternate threads. These tactics usually lead to a spike in apparel sales.

The Indiana Pacers are taking this a step further.

In a partnership described as "first of its kind," MGM Studios and the Pacers will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film "Hoosiers" by having the team wear the Hickory uniform in select regular-season games in 2015-16.

Point guard George Hill took to Twitter to show off the new look.

"Our team will be honored to wear the Hickory uniforms because of the attention it will bring to the storied history of Indiana basketball and the success of that movie," Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird said. "'Hoosiers' takes us all back to a special place and time."

The movie, which was inspired by the 1954 Indiana High School state champion team from Milan, was released to a limited U.S. audience in Nov. 1986. But a groundswell of critical acclaim led to a full release in Feb. 1987 and the movie received two Academy Award nominations later that year.
