Mets' Cabrera trolls umpire after getting tossed in spring training game
For the most part MLB spring training is just training, knocking the dust off and positivity all around. But March baseball is not free from brawls (recall Yankees versus Rays in 2008) or even ejections, like the that occurred on Thursday during the New York Mets-Washington Nationals game.
The dispute began when Mets shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera asked home plate umpire Angel Hernandez for time, but got rebuffed. “I was like, ‘C’mon, can we talk a little bit?’" Cabrera recalled of his conversation with Hernandez, per Newsday.
And then Cabrera smoked a line-drive single and got sent to the showers. In between, he turned back to Hernandez and said “C’mon, man, you’re better than that."
But Cabrera got some small measure of revenge because apparently at the Nationals' complex, The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, the only way out from the dugouts is through the outfield fences. And so Cabrera took the long way home ... very, very slowly. Watch:
