Chris Petersen: 'Tough growing pains' a reality for young Washington offense

Washington's young offense, led by true freshman quarterback Jake Browning, has struggled to consistently move the ball down the field so far this season. Head coach Chris Petersen expected to Huskies to take some lumps on that side of the ball.

"But, being realistic, when you play that many young guys you’re going to have some tough growing pains with this," said Petersen. "And that’s what makes it hard, I think. They care. They are trying to get it right. You can see the look on their face. You can see how hard they are working during the week, but it is going to take a little bit of time.”

The Huskies turned the ball over five times in the 30-24 loss to Cal last Saturday. While Petersen expected some mistakes offensively, he thought that his defense played very well. 

“I thought our defense, like I said, played really well," said Petersen. "Thought they played hard. I think all of our guys played hard, but I think how our defense played, having to face that many plays against that really good offense, I thought they really played well enough for us to win. So I thought that was real positive."
