Western Kentucky hangs on for 88-84 OT win over Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) George Fant scored a career-high 28 points and pulled in 10 rebounds to help Western Kentucky hold off Charlotte for an 88-84 overtime win Thursday night.

After falling behind by three in overtime, Western Kentucky (19-10, 12-5 Conference USA) took the lead for good with a 7-0 burst sparked by Ben Lawson's dunk, making it 81-77 with 2:50 to play. Charlotte's Willie Clayton cut the gap to 86-84 with a tip-in with 19 seconds left before Trency Jackson clinched the win with a pair of free throws at the other end.

Chris Harrison-Docks contributed 18 points, while Jackson and T.J. Price added 13 apiece for WKU, which moved into a crowded second-place conference tie with the win.

Charlotte's Mike Thorne Jr. forced the OT with a jumper that tied it at 74.

Terrence Williams led Charlotte (13-17, 6-11) with a career-high 27 points, Braxton Ogbueze added 17 and Torin Dorn had 12.
