Stony Brook holds on, beats Binghamton 62-57

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) Jameel Warney scored 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as No. 3 seed Stony Brook held on to beat sixth-seeded Binghamton 62-57 in the quarterfinal round of the America East Conference tournament on Wednesday night.

Stony Brook (22-10) will travel to No. 2 seed Vermont (18-12) for a semifinal matchup on Sunday.

Stony Brook shot just 30 percent from the floor in the first half as Binghamton had a 25-23 halftime edge. The Seawolves used an 11-0 run and jumped out to a 41-30 lead with 10:56 remaining. But the Bears chipped away, pulling within 58-55 on Justin McFadden's layup with 1:12 left. Warney and Carson Puriefoy each made a pair of free throws to seal it for the Seawolves, who shot 46 percent in the second half.

Puriefoy and Rayshaun McGrew scored 14 points apiece to lead Stony Brook.

Willie Rodriguez scored 19 points for Binghamton (6-26).
