Simons' 3-pointer lifts Central Michigan over Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) John Simons hit a corner 3-pointer with 1:08 left to give Central Michigan a 65-62 victory over Toledo on Tuesday in a Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.

Toledo's Julius Brown missed a game-tying 3-pointer with 7 seconds left and Central Michigan grabbed the rebound and ran out the clock.

Rayshawn Simmons scored 16 points, on 7-of-13 shooting, with six rebounds and five assists for Central Michigan (11-1). Chris Fowler added 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Simons hit two 3-pointers and finished with nine points.

Central Michigan ended a six game losing streak to Toledo and handed the Rockets their sixth loss in their last seven MAC openers.

Justin Drummond led Toledo (8-6) with 13 points and Jonathan Williams added 11.

Toledo made four 3-pointers in the first half to hold a 31-29 edge at the break. The Rockets finished the game 7 of 18 from beyond the arc.
