S. Illinois 85, Charleston Southern 67

Southern Illinois shot nearly 60 percent and placed four players in double figures Tuesday night in an 85-67 victory over Charleston Southern.

Gene Teague scored 15 points to lead the Salukis (2-2), who shot 58.9 percent (33 of 56). Carlton Fay added 13 points, and John Freeman and Mamadou Seck had 11 apiece.

Kenny Mitchell scored 16 and was the only player in double figures for the Bucs (2-3), though Kevin Martin pulled down a game-best 14 rebounds.

Southern Illinois never trailed and led 55-28 at intermission. It was 61-30 early in the second half before the Bucs ran off 13 in a row, including two 3-pointers by Jeremy Sexton, to trim it to 61-43. But Southern Illinois regained control.

The Salukis dominated inside with 52 points in the paint and a 41-26 rebounding edge.

The game was part of the Chicago Invitational Challenge.
