Report: Texas' Thompson to enter draft

Texas power forward Tristan Thompson will enter the NBA draft, forgoing his final three years of eligibility, the Austin American-Statesman reported Thursday.

The 6-foot-8 freshman said last week at the team's annual awards banquet that if he entered the draft he would also sign with an agent. The Canada native had said last month he planned to return for his sophomore season.

Underclassmen have until Sunday to declare for the June 23 NBA draft. If a player does not sign with an agent, he can opt to withdraw up until May 8 and return to school.

Thompson averaged 11.2 points and eight rebounds per game in his lone season wearing the burnt orange. Most draft observers view Thompson as a likely first round pick.

Sophomore forward Jordan Hamilton, Texas' leading scorer this season, is still debating whether to enter the draft.
