Gabigol could be headed to Inter Milan after Santos accept bid
Inter Milan may have won the race for Brazilian starlet Gabigol. Santos president Modesto Roma confirmed that they have accepted a bid from Inter for Gabigol.
“I can confirm that Santos have received an offer from Inter and now we're all waiting for a definite decision to be taken by the player and his family,” Roma told FC Inter 1908.
“It will depend a lot on them, so if they give their consent, we will start to conclude negotiations with Inter. It will probably be [after the Olympics]. We're all waiting.”
Gabigol is currently with the Brazil team at the Olympics. The 19-year-old has long been considered one of the best young players in the world, with everyone from Real Madrid to Barcelona and Juventus showing interest in him. Most recently, Leicester reportedly lodged a club record bid for Gabigol.
The Brazilian scored 21 goals as a 17-year-old for Santos and has been dubbed “The Next Neymar.” It's always been a matter of when he would make the jump to one of Europe's bigger clubs, not if.
Of course, Roma didn't say the deal to Inter was done. Gabigol has to agree to join Inter and, even if he does, Santos could end up pulling out due to the finer details. That wouldn't be entirely surprising. But at the very least, it's fair to say that Inter Milan are huge frontrunners for Gabigol right now.
