8 worst NFL quarterback situations heading into 2016

Teams have won a Super Bowl with a bad quarterback. Not many, but it has happened. Take the 2015 Denver Broncos, for instance.

However, that's not ideal. You need to have someone under center who won't throw the ball to the other team and can control the offense from a mental standpoint. There are a few teams that aren't that lucky.

So, let's break them down. Here are eight teams who should be sweating their quarterback situations going into 2016.

1. Denver Broncos

Surprised to see a Super Bowl-winning team on this list? You shouldn't be. They're in quite the pickle. They're presumably going to lose one bad quarterback (Peyton Manning) to retirement. And if he doesn't retire, they're going to cut ties with him anyway. That leaves the Broncos with Brock Osweiler, the man who was benched for a 17-interception version of Manning. Gross. What's more, Brock O is going to be an unrestricted free agent. Do the Broncos pay him big money and then eat his contract if he fails? That's a rough choice.

2. Dallas Cowboys

In case you have no idea who this is, it's Kellen Moore.

Let's make one thing clear: Tony Romo is an outstanding quarterback and isn't the reason the Cowboys are here. The issue in Dallas is Romo's injury history, one that caused big problems in 2015. The Cowboys went through Matt Cassel, Brandon Weeden and Kellen Moore in Romo's absence and all failed. Jerry Jones and Co. need to find someone reliable to back up Romo in case the latter gets hurt again. Someone who can at least tread water for a while and -- gasp! -- possibly win a game or two.

3. San Francisco 49ers

Can Blaine Gabbert be Chip Kelly's guy?

Colin Kaepernick could be on his way out in San Francisco or he could stick around for at least the first season of the Chip Kelly era. Either way, one still can't feel great about his future after watching his play in 2015. Blaine Gabbert played well in spurts after taking over for Kaep, but is that what the 49ers want going forward? Is Gabbert the answer? Hmmmm, doubtful.

4. Los Angeles Rams

Will Case Keenum be the first QB booed at home in L.A. this century?

Man, Southern California is in for a treat! You can choose from Case Keenum or Nick Foles! Or if the rumors are true, the ghost of Peyton Manning! Yee-haw! Where can one sign up for season tickets?

5. Philadelphia Eagles

The big question in Philly: Does Bradford even want to return?

6. Houston Texans

Take your pick: Brandon Weeden, Brian Hoyer, Tom Savage and BJ Daniels. The great Dennis Miller once said: Four of junk . . . is junk.

Even Brian Hoyer might be looking for another QB in Houston.

7. Cleveland Browns

This team had Johnny Manziel on its roster in 2015. And he started more than one game. Oh, they also had Josh McCown. And Connor Shaw. It's time to start adding to the astronomical quarterback total since the team's Cleveland rebirth.
